On the 22nd of April, the John Innes Centre Conference Centre hosted the second edition of this annual gathering, and for the first time in Norwich. The room was packed with more than 60 attendees, not only from the Norwich Bioscience Institutes but also from the University of East Anglia, the University of Cambridge, the British Antarctic Survey, and University College London.
Organised by representatives from the Quadram Institute Bioscience, The Sainsbury Laboratory, the British Antarctic Survey, the Norwich Bioscience Institutes Partnership, and the University of Cambridge, and led by Miguel Gonzalez Sanchez (John Innes Centre Informatics), the event was sponsored by the Technician Commitment and the Research Software Engineer Society. The talks were engaging and covered a wide range of topics, including Artificial Intelligence and its challenges, sustainability in software development, High Performance Computing (HPC), various tools, and the relevance of the Technician Commitment initiative, which caught some of the audience by surprise, as they were not aware of its existence.
With great discussions during the talks and breaks, as well as lunch in the breakout rooms, the meeting was a success that impressed everyone who attended. It promoted the Research Software Engineer culture while showcasing the work we do in Norwich.
